According to report by North Korea's state media, come Aug. 15 the country will do away with the time zone it shares with Japan and South Korea and create it's own, returning the country to the time standard it used before the Japanese colonisation..
Pyongyang, the capital city of North Korea standard time, as it were, will be 12 and a half hours ahead of the Eastern United States- 30 minutes just behind Japan standard time, which both Koreas have used since Japan colonised the Korean territory in 1910.
"The wicked Japanese Imperialists committed such unpardonable crimes as depriving Korea of even it's standard time while mercilessly trampling down its land" said KCNA, North Korea's state news agency .
The decision is to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Korea's independence.
